Oilers captain Connor McDavid named NHL First Star of the Week
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario was named the National Hockey League First Star of the Week for the period from December 8-14, 2025. In four games, McDavid had four goals and six assists for 10 points.
McDavid’s most impressive game came on December 11. He had four assists in a 4-1 Oilers win over the Detroit Red Wings on December 11. McDavid then had two goals and one assist for three points in a 6-3 Oilers win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Also during the week, McDavid was a +6 with two power-play points, 15 shots on goal, one hit, three blocked shots and 21 faceoff wins.
In 2025-26, McDavid leads the NHL with 34 assists. During 33 games, he has 18 goals, 52 points, has a zero plus/minus, 14 penalty minutes, 20 power-play points, one game-winning goal, one shorthanded point, 102 shots on goal, 162 faceoff wins, 13 blocked shots, 11 hits, 12 takeaways, and 51 giveaways.
McDavid’s shorthanded point was a shorthanded assist on a goal by Leon Draisaitl with one minute and 13 seconds left in the third period to close out the scoring in a 3-1 Oilers win over the Vancouver Canucks on October 11. McDavid’s game-winning goal came in a 9-4 Oilers win over the Seattle Kraken on December 4. McDavid scored on the power-play from defenseman Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and Draisaitl at 6:14 of the second period, which put the Oilers up 5-2 at the time.
The Oilers have the seventh best record in the Western Conference. They have a record of 15 wins, 12 regulation losses and six losses in extra time for 36 points.
