Carlos Alcaraz recently visited his childhood tennis club in his hometown of Murcia, Spain, and made the occasion memorable for a young fan. The reigning World No. 1 in men’s singles tennis is set to soon jet off to Melbourne for the 2026 Australian Open.

Alcaraz was greeted by several fans eager to meet and greet the six-time Major champion and among them was a young boy who was all smiles upon seeing the Spanish tennis star up close. The 24-time career singles titlist gave him a warm hug and also handed over an autographed tennis ball to the youngster.

December 2025 has so far been a turbulent month for the Carlos Alcaraz camp because of the World No. 1 and Juan Carlos Ferrero’s split. Ferrero, who became Alcaraz’s head coach in 2019, had played a pivotal role in spearheading the Spaniard’s transformation from a prodigious tennis talent to a global superstar of the sport.

However, disagreements between the player and coach’s respective camps led to the split, sparking concerns in terms of how he will perform at the upcoming Australian Open as well as the 2026 tennis season at large. As things stand, Samuel Lopez, who had been serving as Ferrero’s assistant since late 2024, has taken over the head coach duties.

The Australian Open remains the only tennis Major that Carlos Alcaraz is yet to get his hands on. Earlier this month, the 22-year-old told COPE Murcia how winning the men’s singles title at the 2026 Australian Open is his primary goal in the upcoming tennis season.

“My objective for 2026 is Australia, and the good and the bad thing is that it’s the first tournament of the year. We’ll try to be as ready and as well prepared as possible to show a good level and hopefully achieve the goal we want,” Alcaraz said.

The Spaniard also reflected on why he so far hasn’t been able to win the Melbourne Major.

“I think because it’s the first tournament of the year. It’s about getting into rhythm. It’s not that it doesn’t suit me; it’s just that some players do better there, or when we’ve competed, it’s come down to small details,” he added.

At this year’s Australian Open, Alcaraz reached the quarterfinals but was defeated at this stage by Novak Djokovic.
