CREB Foundation supports housing groups

The Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB) Realtor Community Foundation has awarded $101,020 in grants to seven non-profit organizations that provide housing and shelter to vulnerable Calgarians.

The funding brings the total amount distributed by the foundation in 2025 through its Community and Transformation Grants to $298,695 for 11 organizations, an increase of $139,000 compared with 2024.

Earlier this year, the foundation also awarded a three-year, $1-million Legacy Grant to the Calgary Dream Centre to support construction of its new Erlton House for women and families.

Transformation Grant recipients include The Brenda Strafford Foundation, Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre Society, Central United Church’s Central Outreach Hub Space, FearIsNotLove, Highbanks Independent Living for Parenting Youth Society, L’Arche Association of Calgary and Wood’s Homes.

The grants support projects that transform existing spaces and address community infrastructure needs, while Community Grants fund major initiatives that help keep vulnerable Calgarians housed. The Legacy Grant supports the creation of significant new housing options across the city.

Cornerstone golf tournament supports Habitat for Humanity

The Cornerstone Association of Realtors kicked off its second Charity Golf Tournament on Sept. 11, raising $37,505 in support of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region.

The sold-out event brought Realtors together for a day on the course in support of a shared cause. Additional fundraising included an online auction, which raised more than $6,300 through the generosity of attendees, volunteers, sponsors, donors and the broader community.

Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region builds safe and affordable homes, recognizing that stable housing is the foundation for stronger families, communities and local economies. Habitat has been active in the region for more than 35 years, helping more than 140 families.

Realtors have a long history of supporting Habitat through fundraising and hands-on Build Days. With the Kehl Street project now complete in Waterloo, current builds include homes on St. George Street in Kitchener and stacked townhomes on Shantz Hill in Cambridge, helping make homeownership more attainable across Waterloo Region.

Fraser Valley Realtors wrap up annual blanket drive

Fraser Valley Realtors have again shown the strength of community compassion as this year’s Realtors Care Blanket Drive came to a close in early December.

Thanks to the generosity of Fraser Valley Real Estate Board members and their clients, more than 900 bags of blankets, coats and warm winter clothing were collected, offering comfort and support to an estimated 9,000 people across the region.

Now in its 31st year, the Blanket Drive remains one of the Fraser Valley’s most meaningful annual acts of giving. Volunteers from Abbotsford to North Delta, B.C., donated their time and energy to collect, sort and deliver essential winter items to help neighbours stay warm through the colder months.

Chatham-Kent Realtors mark season of giving

Chatham-Kent Realtors gathered to celebrate the season at their Annual Holiday Members Meeting on Dec. 10, at the Links of Kent Event Centre in Chatham, Ont. More than 130 members attended the event, enjoying a festive hot turkey lunch and time to connect with colleagues.

Community support was front and centre through the Realtors Care initiative. Members raised more than $4,500 and collected 49 bags of non-perishable food for Chatham Outreach for Hunger, accepted by Brenda LeClair. In addition, CKAR president Barbara McCaughrin presented a $3,770 Realtors Care grant to Habitat for Humanity representatives Anne Taylor and Mike Coyne for 2025.
