Former Disney+ exec wants $9.25M for his historic LA home
A sleek midcentury-modern home in Brentwood’s Mandeville Canyon is on the market for $9.25 million — down from its $10.5 million asking price last year.
Known as the Veneklasen House, the three-bedroom, 3.5-bath gated home is at 2179 Mandeville Canyon Road.
The seller is Ricky Strauss, founding president of content and marketing for Disney+, where he oversaw global marketing for billion-dollar franchises from Marvel and Disney — as well as “Star Wars.” He then worked as head of marketing for Apple TV+. Last year, Strauss was tapped to consult on “Superman” for DC Studios.
It’s a very private location, said one source familiar with the property, and a classic example of California mid-century architecture. Neighbors include Scooter Braun, Dr. Dre and Lowell Milken.
Built in 1951, the light-filled home comes with glass walls, clean lines and an open layout.
It was designed by architect Kenneth Lind, and influenced by the architecture of Pierre Koenig. An entry opens to a grand living room, which incorporates its natural surroundings by featuring an accordion-fold glass wall and sculptural brickwork. The room also features a woodburning fireplace, and views of the yards.
There’s also an open chef’s kitchen that flows into the living and dining areas, which all lead to the pool area.
Upstairs, a second level addition features a light-filled main bedroom suite that maximizes panoramic canyon views. The sanctuary-style suite includes a sitting area, a fireplace and a spa-like bath.
Strauss bought the home for $9.95 million in 2021. The following year, it won an AIA LA Award for historic preservation.
At 3,904 square feet, the residence — which sits on 0.63 acres — comes with canyon views. With its classic posts, beams and glass walls, the home is ideally set up for an open layout.
Design details include dark walnut, stone, hardwood floors and two fireplaces.
Outside, it’s designed in part to feel like a tree house: a mature eucalyptus tree, surrounded by low-lying plants, anchors the grounds — created by landscape architect Mark Tessier. There’s also a patio, a pool and a fire pit.
The listing broker is Blair Chang of the Agency.
