Alvin Tedjo and Keanin Loomis defeated incumbents as voters chose local leaders across Ontario.
Changes at city hall
Ontario's October 26 municipal elections produced changes in several major communities. The Canadian Press reports that Alvin Tedjo won the Mississauga mayoral race over incumbent Carolyn Parrish and former mayor Bonnie Crombie. In Hamilton, Keanin Loomis defeated incumbent Andrea Horwath.
Toronto's result
Toronto voters returned Olivia Chow as mayor, while the municipal results also included changes in individual council races. Each municipality administers its own election, so city-level results should be checked against the relevant local elections office.
Results and transition
Election-night totals are unofficial until the relevant municipal officials complete their certification processes. The results determine local leadership; policy decisions on housing, transit, budgets and services will be made by the newly elected councils.
