Quirky 257 Bowery gallery building up for sale
The quirky former gallery building at 257 Bowery is for sale for the first time since it opened in 2010. The nine-story structure designed by Foster + Partners was home to the defunct Sperone Westwater gallery.
The vacant jewel-box property between Stanton and Houston streets has about 20,000 square feet, according to CBRE executive vice-president Dan Kaplan.
“It’s the only boutique-scale building designed by Norman Foster in the city,” Kaplan said. He estimated the property would fetch “north of $30 million.”

A unique aspect is an elevator that “effectively acts as a moving floor for some events,” he said.
“This is like selling a piece of art. It could be gallery, a small museum, or for a family office” among other uses, Kaplan said.
