The short version

Federal and local financing details for sportsplex modernization announced November 3 in Lantz, Nova Scotia.

Federal funding announced for recreation hub

The federal government announced a C$1-million contribution toward the modernization of the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz, Nova Scotia, on November 3, 2026. The money comes through the Direct Delivery stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund. The municipality has committed C$2.096 million, and Nova Scotia previously announced C$178,000 for the roof and ice-plant upgrades. The federal government says its contribution remains subject to a signed agreement.

What work is planned

The project includes replacing the roof and upgrading ventilation, security and lighting. Improvements to the Keith Miller Arena are to include a new score clock and LED display, and upgrades to the timekeeper's area and penalty boxes. The facility hosts skating, hockey, curling and other recreation and community activities, as well as a farmers' market. These works aim to extend the building's usefulness; the announcement does not say all construction is already finished.

The local and national picture

East Hants officials described the facility as a gathering place for residents across the municipality. Ottawa's broader Build Communities Strong Fund is planned to support recreation, transit, health and other infrastructure over multiple years. The size of the national program should not be confused with the allocation to this individual project: the specific federal sportsplex investment is C$1 million, with other contributions identified separately.

What remains to be confirmed

The government release does not provide a final completion date or a complete construction cost reconciliation. Residents can look for a signed contribution agreement, construction milestones and any scheduling changes to recreation programs during upgrades. As with any announced capital investment, a funding commitment and the delivery of completed work are different stages.
